He tells her that just because he's ready to die for her doesn't mean he is ready to stay: his wanderlust is too strong to remain in one place. In "Ends of the Earth," Huron describes the landscapes and adventures of the world that call out to him and asks a female character to join him. Lord Huron - Ends of the Earth (Official Music Video) Lord Huron - Lonesome Dreams - "Ends of the Earth" *Bonus final track for streaming and UK CDįurther information: " Ends of the Earth" Lonesome Dreams and Strange Trails "exist within the same world, but they are separated by time, location and different characters." Songs Song It is set in "a world like ours, but compressed, enhanced, and exaggerated." A 2013 version of Johnson's website indicates the track list of the album Lonesome Dreams is the chronological order of the story, so this article is organized in that sequence.Īccording to Ben Schneider, the inspiration for Lonesome Dreams came from a trip to Indonesia, during which he took samples of gamelan music, and from evening drives through the desert in the United States. The novel series unfolds non-chronologically, following the wide-ranging adventures of several characters - chiefly Huron, Admiral Blaquefut and Helena - whose stories intertwine. The official lyrics are available in the CD and vinyl liner notes. The songs are not credited to particular characters, but the music videos and fictional novels provide some context. The events in the album follow characters from a series of adventure novels by George Ranger Johnson. While it's a pleasant enough listen, the entire album falls short of the potential opulence hinted at by its best tracks.Lonesome Dreams is Lord Huron's debut album. Unfortunately, the album is heavier on Western atmosphere and manicured harmonies than it is inspired hooks. While Lonesome Dreams paints its sound in broad, thoughtful strokes, it's at its best when the arrangements meet up with hooks. Rarely do the two worlds meet in the middle as well as they do on "Time to Run," though mellower tracks like "Ghost on the Shore" and "In the Wind" create more space for the album's softer intricacies. Schneider's affected vocals muddy the waters some as well, taking down some of the album's plentiful bright melodies with a heavy mountain-man accent. Somewhere between the feral experimentation of freak folk, the sunny polyrhythms, and the obligatory references to rocks and trees that come with soul-searching folk-informed indie rock like this, Lord Huron either sound like brilliantly happy tropical indie rock (as on "The Man Who Lives Forever") or under-produced young country (as with the hokey title track). Being of several minds like this is the crux of Lonesome Dreams. The song is beyond catchy and beyond happy, bounding along ecstatically between huge choruses, friendly verses, and experimental found sound breakdowns. However, as soon as the song fades out, "Time to Run" begins with watery field recordings of bells and washy synth tones before bursting into a jubilant slice of acoustic pop owing equal parts to Animal Collective's happy-go-lucky freaked sounds and Paul Simon's Afro-pop-borrowing optimism. The searching harmonies and overblown pondering of nature don't help. ![]() As well constructed as the song is, it follows so closely the open-ended indie folk style of Fleet Foxes, My Morning Jacket, and the like that it comes off as a pretty blatant ripoff and little else. ![]() The album opens with "Ends of the Earth," a jaunty and triumphant song filled with imagery of rivers, mountains, and arid desertscapes. The wide-open pastoral feel of the album seems designed to calm the ongoing argument happening with Schneider's songwriting sensibilities, which seem conflicted between jubilant indie pop wanderlust and stoic traditionally structured Americana. Following two low-profile EPs, Lonesome Dreams is the debut from Michigan-born/Los Angeles-based sound sculptor Ben Schneider and his band Lord Huron.

While 7 Days to Die was originally self-published by The Fun Pimps on PC, the developer partnered with a publisher to bring the early access game to consoles including Xbox One. The Xbox version of 7 Days to Die technically hasn't been updated since 2017, leaving many questioning exactly what is coming to Xbox Game Pass later this month. That means it's still frequently being updated as developer The Fun Pimps expand and polish the experience. 7 Days to Die is a survival horror game that, technically, has remained in early access since its initial launch in 2013. It is in moments like this, where you find yourself surrounded on all fronts in a slowly degrading house, fending off the undead with up to three other players, in which 7 Days to Die feels most alive.Xbox recently revealed its plans for Xbox Game Pass releases in the back half of April and among those tiles was the surprise inclusion of 7 Days to Die. The walking dead will turn into the running dead come night time, and will even hunt you down in packs every few days, tearing your infrastructure apart in the process. Alternatively, you could find a dilapidated house to renovate into a more secure bunker, or you could locate a good spot and build a completely new fort from the ground up.Īnd security is the name of the game here, because 7 Days to Die doesn’t hold back on the promise of its title. You could set up a series of spike traps to defend yourself from the various enemies of the world (zombies, dogs, hornets etc), or you could work on your culinary skills and get cooking atop a fireplace to ensure you have enough food to stay alive (your character has various needs related to hunger, hydration, stamina and the like). ![]() There’s an impressive variety of items you can build, and the game (which places you in the open world from the very beginning) allows you the freedom to prioritize whichever you want, though there is a series of initial quests which act as tutorial for those who are unsure how to begin. You can break down or collect anything and everything in the world for resources – trees, rocks, birds’ nests, cars, mailboxes, toilets – which are then used to craft tools and objects for survival. The Fun Pimps are unashamed in borrowing their inspiration from Minecraft, since 7 Days to Die takes the survival aspect of that game and uses it as the basis for their entire experience. That said, 7 Days to Die is almost the inverse experience of a game like Star Wars Battlefront, in that it is all substance, and no style. Still, the game’s technical problems are a serious shortcoming, especially when these issues directly inhibit the quality your playtime. Even the artistic aesthetic of the procedurally-generated worlds looks just drab, mediocre and uninspired, though some of the sound design works effectively to contrast the day and night cycles. ![]() To be honest, it’s almost like developer The Fun Pimps intentionally avoided even bothering with the visuals of 7 Days to Die, because they were too busy focusing on the survival aspect of the game. Combat also feels icky, whether you’re repeatedly bashing a zombie in with a club or figuring out how exactly those damn bow and arrows are meant to work. The already unaccommodating UI menus haven’t been translated with particular finesse to the consoles either, and navigating them with the analog sticks is a constantly frustrating experience that shouldn’t be as awkward as it currently is. On top of this, the framerate on the PlayStation 4 is questionable at best, and the game will straight up freeze for a few seconds every time it auto-saves (which is pretty often). Textures are blurry, object pop-ins are frequent and character models exhibit the animation range of a window store mannequin. ![]() Let’s first get this out of the way 7 Days to Die looks horrendous. Indeed, 7 Days to Die’s ugly visuals are pretty unacceptable for today’s standards on consoles, but behind the unattractive surface lies a deep and surprisingly compelling experience that reveals why Telltale decided to publish the game in the first place. Platforms: PC, PS4 (Version reviewed), Xbox OneĪt first glance, you might think 7 Days to Die was another cheaply made Minecraft rip-off shamelessly riding on the popularity of the survival-crafting genre that Notch’s indie hit originally created. By Alex Avard 6 years ago This PC sleeper hit has finally arrived on consoles thanks to Telltale Games, but is 7 Days to Die even worth your attention? Upon release, the game received critical acclaim. Stephen Barton returned to compose the game's music. A heavily modified version of Valve's Source engine powers the game. The team also overhauled the progression system and made subtle changes to the multiplayer to make the gameplay more fair. Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet and buddy cop films, as well as the video game Half-Life inspired the game's campaign and narrative. They came up with different ideas and prototypes, and integrated them to form a single coherent campaign. The decision to add a single-player campaign to the game came about because the team wanted to expand the game's player base. The game's two-year development cycle began in mid-2014. Together, they embark on a quest to stop the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) from launching a superweapon that is threatening to destroy the Militia planet Harmony. ![]() Set in a science fiction universe, the single-player campaign follows the story of Jack Cooper, a rifleman from the Frontier Militia, who bonds with his mentor's Titan BT-7274 after his mentor is killed in action. The main bottleneck in PS2 emulation is emulating the Emotion Engine multi-processor on the PC x86 architecture. Since September 2016, PCSX2 is partially compatible with PlayStation games. Additionally, PCSX2 requires a genuine copy of the PS2 BIOS, which is not available for download from the developers due to copyright-related legal issues. Different plug-ins may produce different results in both compatibility and performance. These are the graphics, audio, input controls, CD/DVD drive, and USB and FireWire (i.LINK) ports. PCSX2, like its predecessor project PCSX (a PlayStation emulator), is based on a PSEmu Pro spec plug-in architecture, separating several functions from the core emulator. Although PCSX2 can closely mirror the original gameplay experience on the PlayStation 2, PCSX2 supports a number of improvements over gameplay on a traditional PlayStation 2, such as the ability to use custom resolutions up to 8192×8192, anti-aliasing, and texture filtering.
